Once Upon a Time, Minorities Fought Slavery

Ashley Stinnett
Throughout history America has had to endure many struggles. One of those challenges has been the issue of racism. Many civil rights experts believed the recent election of the nation’s first African-American to the White House would cure bad race-relations. Sadly, a recent poll released by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press shows Obama losing support by a wide-margin among white voters. Of course, anyone that can do math will realize without whites any African-American cannot win the presidency. The problem among whites is not their disdain towards Obama because he is black. The real problem is the fact white-Americans are being labeled “racist” if they oppose the president on issues like abortion, health care, the 2nd Amendment and others. At the very least, America is witnessing reverse racism to an all new level.

Here is a question to ponder for a moment. What would have been said if 96 percent of white-Americans voted for Senator John McCain during last year’s election? The answer is easy. The media would have labeled them racist. In all honesty, most of the mainstream media applied that label to whites then, and now. In fact, since Obama took office Democrats have been quick to label conservatives as racist. This is extremely damaging to a society that is only eight months removed from electing its first minority to the highest office in the land. But what about black conservatives who are speaking out? Of course, they are being chastised by the media because in this country one cannot be a minority and conservative. That is just too dangerous.

Liberalism is not taught to first year college journalism majors, it is expected. The system of journalism, its structure, style and format is something most students have to learn quickly or they won’t last a day in the “real” world. Academic professionals feel as though they should not have to teach the core elements of liberal social engineering that is expected of J-school graduates. Instead, journalism professors feel as though most students will have already subscribed to the far left ideology long before they

hit the classroom. It is a sad yet true testament to today’s journalism industry. Even media legends of yesteryear such as Walter Cronkite were developed with a political bias. Today’s overwhelming majority of television news personalities is liberal and is not afraid to show their true colors in front of a national audience.

Over the last several weeks key figures within the coal community have been voicing their frustration over the White House’s attempt to heavily restrict, if not, do away with the industry as a whole. These leading industry representatives from around the country have joined movers and shakers within the agriculture community, as well as the manufacturers association in targeting members of Congress over Cap and Trade legislation, which is currently being reviewed in the Senate.

In May, officials from the Chamber warned the bill’s ramifications would be “very expensive and regulatory to businesses” and would result in a “catastrophic cascade of rules and regulations” if the legislation were to reach President Obama’s desk.
