Psychos Versus Cowards
It’s hard to stomach anything that comes out of President Obama’s mouth anymore. He’s totally disconnected from economic reality, does nothing but endlessly set up phony straw men that he disingenuously uses to fraudulently portray himself as the centrist compromiser, and always tops it with a heaping dollop of raw Marxist class warfare.
His appearance in Iowa, and his press conference this week were nothing but that. First he went to Iowa and talked up the economy, never mind a 20% real unemployment rate and increasing gas and food prices. About the only thing missing was Kevin Bacon in his “Animal House” ROTC uniform, saying “Remain calm, all is well!” even as a riot erupts around him.
He once again yammered on about non-existent green jobs, and of course the usual dig at “the rich” by criticizing private jet use. About the only thing missing from his usual list was playing the race card and blaming absolutely, positively everything on BOOSH!!
Then he went back to Washington and promptly blew up the debt ceiling negotiations by insanely demanding half a trillion in tax hikes in this already bad economy. This from a president that has only offered a totally unserious budget – and a Democrat Senate that hasn’t offered one at all – and who has been playing golf rather than doing his job. (Actually, I take that back – since Obama has never been the brains of his administration, reading the teleprompters is the only real job he has and he’s been doing that.)
Of course, this is the top play in the standard Democratic playbook: Offer no leadership at all, then demagogue whatever the Republicans produce, have their propagandist media allies spew apocalyptic fear-mongering over spending cuts/inaction, and then when the GOP inevitably caves under the pressure of dishonestly getting all of the blame, extract massive tax increases in exchange for letting them off the hook.
The exact same thing is happening in my home state of Minnesota. Governor Mark “Trust-Fund Baby” Dayton has been hell-bent on raising taxes on “the rich” to close a $5 billion deficit. The GOP Legislature passed a balanced budget that spent $32 billion over 2 years ($6,400 for every man, woman, and child in the state) without raising taxes in an already high tax state.
Dayton promptly vetoed it, while having never offered any budget of his own, no indication as to what he’d spend the additional $5 billion in taxes on, and refusing to consider any temporary measures. Then he lowered his demand to $2.5 billion in tax hikes and proudly puffed his chest to claim he’d come “halfway.” Never mind that he’d still be raising taxes massively by billions. (Try going to your boss, demanding a raise, and when he refuses demand one half the size and arrogantly claim he has to give it to you because you came “halfway.” See how that works for you as you head for the unemployment line.)
Now, at midnight tomorrow, the MN state government will shut down as they won’t have a budget. The local media, every bit as liberally biased as their national brethren, has gone into full sky-is-falling apocalypse mode, one station even putting a Countdown to Shutdown clock on their air. Dayton, of course, is convinced the GOP will wilt under the tsunami of sob stories that will dishonestly pin the blame on them.
So again, the same play: Do nothing, demagogue, media allies pin blame, wait for cowardly GOP to cave. The sad thing is, I can’t blame the Democrats either in Washington or St. Paul, because one can just about set one’s watch by Republican gutlessness. They care more about getting re-elected and thus pacifying the media than stopping liberalism from being implemented, and so that’s what will happen. If it didn’t work pretty much every time, this wouldn’t be the Democrats’ bread-and-butter play.
But we are at the point, if not well past it, where caving in is no longer an option. We are facing an incomprehensible $100 trillion in debt, half of that from entitlements alone. Just having interest rates tick up a small amount would instantly add $5 trillion in new debt-servicing costs. We’re at the point where just paying off debt will consume the entire federal budget.
Far from giving criminally reckless politicians any more money to spend, we need to enact drastic spending cuts right now! Not this “over ten year” garbage, but immediately. And, by several orders of magnitude, larger than anything that’s been remotely considered to this point. Otherwise, something legitimately frightening and apocalyptic will happen, be that defaulting or hyperinflation or both or worse. Margaret Thatcher has again been proven correct: “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.”
But don’t expect Democrats to deal with this reality that’s the direct result of their policies having gone unchecked for essentially the last 80 years since FDR’s New Deal. They are completely delusional, convinced that if only “the rich” would pay more taxes, they could in fact afford to tax and spend infinity and that $100 trillion in debt would just magically vanish. Poof!
Fact is, you could take ALL of “the rich’s” income, and it wouldn’t put a dent into the tens of trillions of debt that’s been run up. And “the rich” already pay about half of federal income taxes as is; it’s the poorest 48% of Americans who pay no federal income tax – and thus are happy to leech off the productive – who haven’t “paid their fair share”. Perhaps if they did, they’d learn that their lunch isn’t “free” after all.
And then there’s the mother lode of liberal delusion: enviro-wacko-ism. Obama’s shock troops over at the EPA are considering a 56 mpg standard for vehicles by the year 2025, immutable laws of physics be damned. And he’s long fantasized that wind and solar power will somehow offset putting all domestic energy supplies off limits, when it never can and never will. Then there’s the old “man-made global warming” con job, which by now has been completely blown apart to anyone not a hard-core greenie.
One could laugh this off if it wasn’t being used to ruthlessly crush personal liberty, from banning incandescent light bulbs, phosphates in detergent, high-flow shower heads, and large-flush toilets. Instead, the Obama EPA is a direct threat to the freedom of all of us.
And on the rare occasion the Democrats lose, as in Wisconsin earlier this spring when even fleeing the state to prevent a vote didn’t work, then the angry-at-losing-their-taxpayer-sugar-daddy liberal mob comes to pound you to bits while they run to their judge buddies to pretend the Constitution says whatever is necessary to manufacture the outcome they want – which in itself is another example of their delusion.
So, put all of it together: The staggering disconnect from and denial of reality, the scorched-earth tactics, the phony Wizard of Obama blathering on and playing golf while some man-behind-the-curtain really wields the power and makes the decisions. Does this sound like an entity the least bit interested in anything other than getting their way no matter what it takes? Do they sound like anybody capable of admitting error and/or reversing course? Heck, they sound more like The Borg on “Star Trek” with the single collective mind causing each drone to recite the same line to every vessel they meet: “We are the Borg. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.”
You don’t waste time reasoning with people who wouldn’t know reality if it hit them upside the head with a two-by-four. Their scorched-earth bloodsport tactics make it clear they have no interest in anything but crushing their opponents and implementing their ideology. And to that end, anything goes, up to and including outright thuggery.
Does this sound like a recipe for anything other than tyranny (if we fail to resist) or civil war (if we fight back)? Fact is, we’re already dangerously close – and the other side is already bringing us the former and waging the latter. They are moving as coldly, efficiently, and ruthlessly as “The Terminator” and we had better heed Kyle Reece’s paraphrased warning: Listen, and understand! […] They can’t be reasoned with, they can’t be bargained with, they don’t feel remorse or pity or pain. And they absolutely will not stop, EVER, until America is dead!
What else is there to do when faced with such a domestic existential threat and the one entity positioned to do something about them instinctively goes turtle at every chance to stand up? Both of them, the Democratic psychos and the Republican cowards, have left us with the initiative and little other choice.
