The real problem with Christopher Lee

Liz Carter

It’s not the morality issue I have with now-former Congressman Christopher Lee (R-New York).

In fact, let me say it: “Congressman, go ahead, once out of office, lie, tell women you’re 39 (LOL), get a divorce, find someone to rock your world, post a full body shot! I don’t care. It is not my place to judge you.”

That's not government waste you're exposing there, Congressman.

Congressman and those reading this whose jaws just hit the table – did you catch it?

“Once out of office!” Why? Those who run for office accept, or should accept, that they are held to a higher standard. Once elected to Congress, focus must be maintained on matters of the greatest importance to our nation. An individual riddled with ethics problems, and a wife holding a gun to their privates, does not have the ability to provide the focus needed to hold these positions.
In a time when our nation is engaged in multiple wars, high unemployment and attempts at fundamental changes, all elected officials must hold themselves to a higher standard and stay focused on upholding the oath that he or she taken.

“I, (name of Member), do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.”

Hiding lies is a distraction, one that distracts from one’s ability to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against the constant attacks from enemies, foreign and domestic. Time spent covering up unethical tracks and private lives is time when one is unable to respond to the needs of those they have been elected to represent.
Oh, and you Democrats out there celebrating, not so quick.

I’ve never been so proud to be a Republican. When Speaker Boehner said he has zero tolerance for bad conduct, he meant it and is doing what he said. Democrats will always have to live with former Speaker Pelosi tolerating and “toning down” the ramped ethical issues that continue to plague the Democratic Party. Need I remind you of Maxine Waters, Charlie Rangel, Stanford Bishop and even former President Bill Clinton? These are all Democrats that have had unethical or immoral behavior swept under a congressional rug by the Pelosi broom, and are all individuals (excepting Clinton) who still serve thinking they are above the American people.

Hats off to Speaker Boehner for being a real leader.
