Obama’s communist takeover attempt – and our response

I did my usual daily check of online news today, and these were the first four items that caught my eye out of the gate:

Democrats try to ram hated socialist “health care” bill through Congress without a vote

Obama budget runs all-time record monthly deficit ($220 billion for 28 days of February)

Change.

Change.

Obama places entire domestic energy supply off-limits

Obama considers ban of all recreational fishing

What do the above four headlines from today’s news have in common? OK, besides the fact that the leftist propaganda machine known as the mainstream media hasn’t and won’t make a significant mention of any of them, other than to blame Republicans for “partisanship” should they dare try to slow any of this down (when Democrats would easily have the numbers if they’d stop their hyper-partisan overreach) and spew Democratic boilerplate to help cover it up (Big Insurance, Big Oil, blah blah blah).

And if the situation were reversed, with the GOP trying to slash spending, repeal entire federal departments and immediately obtain all those energy resources, to the point of trashing all statutory and Constitutional limits on their power to make it happen no matter what, the hysterical screaming comparisons of conservatives to Nazis would never stop.

Individually, each one of these four items would be bad and galling enough. Together, they show just how obsessed the left is with forcibly remaking America into the New Soviet Union and how ruthless their pursuit of this all-consuming goal. Little inconsequential things like the rule of law, economic reality, the laws of physics, and personal liberty are but mere inconveniences to be shrugged off in their maniacal pursuit of absolute power over everyone and everything.

Have a different “health care” bill passed by the Senate and are unable to get the votes to pass it in the House despite massive pork bribery and/or Chicago thug knee-capping from Rahm Emanuel? No problem! Just get the House rule changed to declare them one and the same! Wave the magic wand, say abracadabra, and poof it’s off to Obama for his signature. To hell with the total evisceration of Article I, Section 7 of the Constitution (well-known to anyone who ever heard the “Yeah, I’m a Bill” song from Schoolhouse Rock).

And in case you hadn’t heard, money really does grow on trees! The way Obama is spending (and spending and spending and spending and spending and spending) it, to the tune of $55 billion in new debt per week, piled on top of $70 trillion of Social Security and Medicare entitlement debt already due to consume the entire federal budget before the decade is out, he’s rapidly accelerating the date of America’s inevitable total insolvency. He’s either mathematically insane or he’s deliberately destroying the economy – all the better to justify expanding unconstitutional and liberty-crushing government power even further, like his idol FDR.

Finally, there are all those magical “green jobs” that have only ever existed in the delusional minds of the enviro-wackos. We can lock up and forever put off-limits all of America’s plentiful and cheap domestic energy supplies – tens of billions of barrels of oil, trillions of cubic feet of natural gas, tons upon tons of coal, and no new nuclear power plants for electricity (even as hybrid electric cars being forced on us would greatly increase demand) – and magically make up for it with wind and solar. Uh, hello in there…

I’ll leave the fishing ban for another time, except to say that anyone who believes that human beings are the world’s greatest pestilence belongs not in the White House but the nearest sanitarium. And that Big Green is much more of an imminent threat to your freedom than your existence is to Earth’s well-being.

There can be only two possible explanations for stuff this off the far, far, raving deep left end of the spectrum. Either Obama, Pelosi, and Reid are total lunatics or they are committed hardcore Marxists, determined to destroy America as created by the Founders and we’ve known it for 234 years. Either way – and let’s face it, that’s a distinction without a difference – they must be responded to with whatever it takes to stop them.

And that’s not just going to be handing Congress back to the GOP this November; the Democrats wouldn’t be this hell-bent on ramming through an extremely unpopular bill unless they knew it would never be repealed and thus ready to be built upon further 2 to 4 years later. So even if it happens, don’t start celebrating what would be almost certainly be an entirely pyrrhic victory.

Also, indulge with caution the notion that if we could only get past the drive-by media snowjob, people would wake up. Far too many people have a direct personal interest in keeping the government gravy train running on time, or have been brain-addled by the left’s long slow march through the institutions – public education, college campuses, Hollywood, and the mainstream media. Just look at places a bit further along the path to insolvency, like California and Greece, and the bitter protests that break out when the Other People’s Money-a-holics are finally forced to go sober cold-turkey and those first withdrawal pangs hit.

Finally, bear in mind what happens to those who truly represent a threat to the far left and really get in the way of their quest for power. Nothing less than pure evil hatred belched forth from the deepest, darkest pit of Hell will be unleashed for the purpose of total destruction. Robert Bork, Clarence Thomas, President Bush (after Florida 2000) and Sarah Palin have all been so targeted and made to suffer it.

I know that this isn’t exactly an uplifting way to end an otherwise bleak column, but such is the reality we presently face. There is no magic elixir here, no snap of the fingers solution. Nevertheless, we must be willing to forgo our comfortable existence for the sake of liberty, in whatever form that might take.

As Thomas Paine said in The American Crisis in December of 1776, “What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly. [...] Let it be told to the future world that, in the depth of winter when nothing but hope and virtue could survive, the city and country, alarmed at one common danger, came forth to meet and repulse it.”
