Sex or no sex, Nevada Gov. Gibbons is scoring

Kelly Anderson Wright

Kelly Anderson Wright

Nevada’s governor has received an uptick in popularity, possibly because he is doing the best he can with what he’s been given, and it wasn’t sex, apparently.

Compared to Tiger Woods and John Edwards, Gov. Jim Gibbons looks like a prude. Yet left-leaning pundits and n’er-do-wells want us to believe otherwise.

Action.

Action.

In a recent article, Politics Daily described Gov. Jim Gibbons as a “scandal-scarred” candidate, doubtful to win the GOP gubernatorial nomination this June, citing a “nasty divorce, stories about extramarital affairs and charges that he assaulted a cocktail waitress.”

Obama and friends: How not to lead

Herman Cain

Herman Cain

The three critical things a leader must do are work on the right problems, listen and ask the right questions and remove barriers to self-motivation. The events over the last few weeks by President Obama and the Democrat leaders in Congress have demonstrated just the opposite.

Oh its laughable all right.

Oh it's laughable all right.

Despite consistent polls which have shown that the majority of the American public does not agree with the massive health care proposal by President Obama and the Democrats to take over the entire health care system in this country, they are trying to do it their way anyway. That’s working on the wrong problem.

The Obama Lama upon the summit

Bob Maistros

Bob Maistros

“I commend you, mere politicians, for joining me, the Obama Lama, upon the summit.  For if you will release yourselves from your talking points, props, usual critiques, partisanship and ideology and partake of my Received Wisdom, you too can achieve True Enlightenment, Universal Coverage, Budget Savings, Lower Premiums, Entitlement Reform and Miraculous Healing of Cancer Victims Denied Coverage by Cruel Insurers.  Lamar Alexander, we will recognize you now.”

Ready for your received wisdom?

Ready for your received wisdom?

“Won’t your Received Wisdom actually involve ‘the mother of all unfunded mandates’ and even higher premiums?”

“Lamar, it is apparent that your inability to let go of your usual critiques is keeping you from True Enlightenment.  Because the Source of all Truth is the Congressional Budget Office, and we know this because CBO agrees with the Enlightened One.  Jon Kyl.”

Congressman Jim McDermott: Enemy of U.S. national security

Gregory D. Lee

Gregory D. Lee

This week, Rep. Jim McDermott (D-Washington) stealthily introduced a section into the intelligence authorization bill titled, “Cruel, Inhuman, and Degrading Interrogations Prohibition Act of 2010.” If enacted, there would be criminal penalties up to the death penalty for U.S. interrogators in the war on terror who subjected terrorists to so-called “Enhanced Interrogation Techniques” (EITs).

Our fearless protectors.

Our fearless protectors.

On Wednesday, Rep. McDermott, at the very last minute while you and I slept, inserted a new provision into the bill that prohibits interrogators from ever using EITs against terrorists. EITs are already banned by President Obama’s executive order, so why the need to insert this into the intelligence authorization bill?

Blair House Washingtonspeak

Bob Franken

Bob Franken

Was that great reality television or what? What a gimmick: Stuff as many stuffy people into a stuffy room, let them say some stuff. Then, at the end if the season we can decide who is voted out. Actually, maybe it was a game show. Or situation comity.

Snookies got nothing on me.

Snookie's got nothing on me.

Whatever. It was gripping TV. Chances are, though, there should be subtitles, because all of the contestants were talking in Washingtonspeak, an obsolete language, where most of the words translate into the exact opposite of what normal people think they mean.

This is just a small sample:

Obama and the perils of leadership

Lawrence J. Haas

Lawrence J. Haas

It was October, 1937, and President Roosevelt was trying to convince Americans to focus on the frightening events in Europe and Asia, to understand that the United States could not wall itself off from the world and to recognize that the march of totalitarianism abroad was a mounting threat at home.

Different issues, same reaction.

Different issues, same reaction.

The nation, however, was not ready to hear it. After Roosevelt made his case in a high-profile speech in Chicago, a hotbed of isolationism, the public reacted harshly. Americans were far more concerned about the economy’s return to recession, and most believed the nation’s top foreign policy goal should be to avoid war.

“It’s a terrible thing,” FDR reflected a few days later, “to look over your shoulder when you are trying to lead and find no one there.”

Total recall

Bob Maistros

Bob Maistros

BREAKING NEWS: The American people have issued an urgent recall notice for the House and Senate model Health Care Reform vehicles produced and marketed by Democratic Motors.

The vehicles have been reported to be subject to sudden and uncontrollable acceleration through

Congress, apparently due to political leadership with the intelligence and responsiveness of floor mats. Reports have also been received of the models’ failures to respond to signals from the Constitutional braking system transmitted from Virginia, New Jersey and Massachusetts.

In addition, the vehicles were said to be based on outmoded technology, making them subject to deficit explosions, and dangerously overweight, disrupting stability and causing the potential to tip over the financial system on tight economic curves. Consumers were incensed that design flaws were corrected for customers in some states and not in others.

Barack Obama: The delusional Daunte Culpepper of presidents

Dan Calabrese

Dan Calabrese

I think it takes a Minnesota Vikings fan to explain what happened in Washington yesterday. Let me take you back to the 2005 season. The Vikings had traded superstar wide receiver Randy Moss prior to the season, partially with the thought that it was time to let the Vikings become quarterback Daunte Culpepper’s team.

The Man-Chylde.

The Man-Chylde.

They had used the first-round draft pick they received in the Moss trade to select another speedster receiver, Troy Williamson, and they handed the keys to the team to Culpepper so he could drive it to the Super Bowl.

Oops!
