America: God’s special place

Over 300 years ago, a colony of pilgrims and a group of Wampanoag Indians, gathered together for a celebration feast in what is now Plymouth, Massachusetts. The meal was a mutual “thanksgiving” to God, whom they highly revered as the nucleus of their journey to a distant land.

Providence.

Providence.

It was only a mere 14 years earlier that the first official American colony was established in Jamestown, Virginia where one of the first and most successful Protestant churches was established. Both colonies appeared to hold deep Christian values, as did many who migrated from England during that era of new “discoveries”.

It was in these values that America was born.

Flash forward to the age of our Founding Fathers. While there has been great debate on whether or not the majority of the signers were in fact true Christian believers, clear evidence does make the case they were all men of deep religious values stemming from Christ’s teachings.

John Adams, the second U.S. president and signer of the Declaration of Independence, said, “Suppose a nation in some distant Region should take the Bible for their only law Book, and every member should regulate his conduct by the precepts there exhibited! Every member would be obliged in conscience, to temperance, frugality, and industry; to justice, kindness, and charity towards his fellow men; and to piety, love, and reverence toward Almighty God … What a Eutopia, what a Paradise would this region be.”

Many Christian historians believe America was, and is, in fact a nation born before God’s eyes. Before America, many countries did not allow freedom of worship, even in Christian circles. In fact, most countries had some form of church-driven government mandate on the practice of worship.

An example of direct power today is the United States government’s intentions of total control over human lives through radical health care legislation. Back then, government maintained total control through religious doctrines and edicts.

It would appear as though not much has changed throughout history when it comes to an oppressive government. The framers knew this when they helped shape American policy among its people. They knew that in order for men to live freely with concrete moral values, Christian principles should be the catalyst for government action.

While the academic elite, far-left politicians and liberal media portray America as a mix bag of secular pontificants, most citizens agree Christianity is the harness guiding our nation’s well-being.

In fact, George Washington, who even some liberals agree is the most famous American president, said, “It is rightly impossible to govern the world without God and the Bible.”

Or how about Patrick Henry’s famous declaration when he said, “It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians.”

If America is a nation reserved for the secular elite, why then would biblical epitaphs and Christian references be placed in and around buildings in our nation’s capital? Why would so many U.S. presidents – from George Washington and John F. Kennedy to Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush – invoke God as the power behind policy? Why would the majority of Americans believe in God and want to better society through Christian beliefs?

The answer is, no matter how hard the far-left tries to paint America, God is still the glue holding us all together.

In his first New York Thanksgiving Proclamation, President George Washington declared, “it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favour.”

Just as the Jews and Gentiles fled persecution and Europeans escaped tyranny, Americans will one day look back and realize that we gave God’s people a home. We provided a place for freedom of worship and liberty for all men to establish. We did this on the foundation of God and the Bible.

Americans and Christians alike should never forget those famous words of Thomas Jefferson when he so boldly professed, ” I am a real Christian – that is to say, a disciple of the doctrines of Jesus Christ.”

  • “the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion”

  • I’d personally also like to state that most of those that find themselves without having health insurance are generally students, self-employed and those that are not working. More than half on the uninsured are really under the age of Thirty five. They do not sense they are needing health insurance because they are young plus healthy. Their income is often spent on property, food, along with entertainment. Many individuals that do work either whole or not professional are not presented insurance by way of their work so they move without due to the rising expense of health insurance in the country. Thanks for the concepts you share through this web site.

  • The next time I learn a blog, I hope that it doesnt disappoint me as much as this one. I mean, I do know it was my option to read, but I really thought youd have one thing interesting to say. All I hear is a bunch of whining about one thing that you might fix for those who werent too busy on the lookout for attention.

  • pity:

I want to blog about issues I don’t want associating with my ‘work’ self. How do I choose a blog host that has a good anonymity record, in other words, I don’t want it to be easy for people to match up my IP address or access my personal details.. Also, having set the blog up, how do you encourage high volume visitors?. I’ve only used LJ before and I want to try something a bit different, but anonymity is the biggest issue for me. Would welcome suggestions of good free blog hosts..
