If this is an economic ‘jolt,’ then red is the new green

Herman Cain
Christina Romer, the chairperson of President Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers, said Thursday that the $194 billion already spent from the $787 billion economic stimulus gave a jolt to the economy that contributed to growth in the second and third quarters of the year.

Some jolt.
According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the first, second and third quarters of 2009, respectively, were negative 1.9 percent, negative 3.3 percent and negative 3.8 percent. It looks like economic growth got increasingly worse each quarter.
J-Street: Built on a body of lies

Jamie Weinstein
This week J-Street, the self-proclaimed “pro-Israel, pro-peace” lobby, will host its first ever policy conference in Washington, D.C. The lobby, which is just over a year old, was essentially founded to be a more “progressive” version of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, one of the most effective lobbies in Washington.

A body of lies.
But J-Street’s foundation is built on a body of lies. Indeed, one can decipher at least three fallacies upon which J-Street emerged. Let’s examine them.
Fallacy #1: AIPAC is a right-wing organization Read the rest of this entry »
Dodgers fans make parenting easy

Nathaniel Shockey
The common assumption is that having children puts everything else in a different, more truthful perspective. Now that I have some actual experience with the issue, I attribute this new perspective to parents who can’t tell the difference between being awake and being asleep.
Being a parent is awesome. I love coming home to see my family. I love holding my little boy. I love playing the piano for him to help him calm down. I love imagining what he’s thinking, or at least making up stuff for comedic value. And I also love watching sports with him in my lap.

A great parenting tool.
While I’m a tad reluctant to begin indoctrinating him with my political opinions, I have no reservations about promptly engaging him with professional sports. As he was born on a Saturday, we were watching Monday Night Football two days later, and the next week. I explained to him that Brett Favre, while acting like a baby (I also explained to him that this expression held no real meaning) in his previous four offseasons is still a legendary quarterback enjoying a career year and he deserves our respect. Meet Obama’s friends!
Mark Watson
What do the following statements have in common?
“It should be clear by now that my focus here is not freedom of speech or the press. This freedom is all too often an exaggeration. At the very least, blind references to freedom of speech or the press serve as a distraction from the critical examination of other communications policies.” – Mark Lloyd, Diversity Czar for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

F*** 'em!
“There are few things I think more frightening in the American mind than dark skin black men.” – Mark Lloyd.
“A president and his staff, rather than federal judges, should interpret federal law.” – regulatory czar Cass Sunstein.
Patriot Act is helping save lives

Gregory D. Lee
Thanks in part to the Patriot Act, the FBI is more proactive in its search for Muslim terrorists operating in this country. The recent arrests of suspected terrorists in Springfield, Illinois, New York City, Dallas and Boston prove the Patriot Act is working to enable the FBI to be more aggressive in its fight against terrorism.

Keeping us safe.
In the case of Husein Smadi, the Dallas wannabe terrorist who strived to blow up a bank building there, the FBI surfed the internet and visited various terrorism related web sites where it found him trying to join the jihad. Prior to 9/11, the FBI was prohibited from doing this.
Progressives against progress
Dan Sherrier
I don’t believe in catastrophic man-made global warming.
I’m not anti-science. I’m not a “flat-Earther.” I’m not burying my head in the sand. I’m not stupid. (Though environmentalists will accuse me of all these because of our difference of opinion. They’re a sensitive bunch, deeply devoted to their apocalyptic religion. I suppose it makes their lives feel more dramatic, somehow, if the world is about to end, and only they can prevent it.)

Lights out.
I am, however, for progress and human achievement–two things some environmentalist “progressives” seem to have issues with. I also don’t accept “everyone says so” arguments. Nobody’s perfect, and that includes climate scientists. You expect me to believe that they’ve proven, beyond all shadow of a doubt, how the climate is going to change over the next several decades? (Please see my case for skepticism here.) Read the rest of this entry »
