Obama’s leadership problem: He can’t

It’s one thing as president of the United States to surround yourself with a cabinet and group of czars that do your bidding.  It’s completely different to direct their general path and provide decision-making leadership that doesn’t embarrass you.  Now that nine full months have passed into the record books of the Obama Administration, I believe we can safely assume a few things about his ability to lead.

In a nutshell, he can’t.

Lost?

Lost?

When it came to the so-called stimulus bill, he left the architecture of it to the leaders in Congress.  It was like handing clean needles and raw opium to a kingpin dealer.  Congress, instead of crafting legislation that would cut taxes, diminish overburdening regulation, and decrease spending, went on a spending binge that would make an alcoholic look like he only drank in moderation.

And the Obama White House has the audacity to tell Americans that the “stimulus is working.”  The only part of the economy that was stimulated was the government sector.  While everything else has shrunk, government continues to bloat.

In the debate over health care (actually, health insurance coverage), President Obama has repeatedly defended a plan that doesn’t exist.  He refers to “his” plan but has left the House to merge three bills and the Senate with two, but has given no clear guidance on which way they should go.  Now, you have left-of-center Democrats feuding with far-left Democrats over various aspects, and Republicans (all but Olympia Snowe) left out in the cold.

Obama promised to rein in spending.  As a candidate, the president blamed George W. Bush (doesn’t everyone?) for a lack of fiscal restraint, calling our economy “the worst since the Great Depression.”  We’ve heard that before with Bill Clinton in 1992.  Obama then said to the American voters that he would look through the federal budget line-by-line.  Those were his words.  And yet, he has overseen the largest single-year deficit in history, four times larger than Bush’s worst.

Fighting the war isn’t bringing any leadership out for him, either.  There is a vast difference between deliberation and dithering.  Between bucking up and blaming.  Between commitment and callousness.  When generals and admirals are going to the press to complain about a lack of troops, you have a problem.  A big problem that needs addressing – now.

So, free of charge, I offer the following pieces of advice for the president and Congress, who have all lost their way when it comes to leadership:

  • Cut taxes
  • Cut spending
  • Cut over-regulation
  • Kill the health care debate for this year and start over
  • Give the military the troops they need to finish this war – and win
  • Get government off the backs of small businesses and the American taxpayers

Stand firm on principle, let the American people do what they do best, and then get out of their way.  That is the essence of leadership.  Otherwise you appear as lost as a golf ball in high grass.

  • The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

  • Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

  • I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

  • Props for this kind of an excellent write-up, keep up your wonderful function.

Undeniably believe that which you stated. Your favorite reason appeared to be on the net the easiest thing to be aware of. I say to you, I definitely get annoyed while people consider worries that they plainly don’t know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top as well as defined out the whole thing without having side effect , people can take a signal. Will probably be back to get more. Thanks
