Thorbjorn Jagland: Obama’s Nobel ‘achievement’ was leaving Eastern Europe vulnerable to nuclear attack
Dan Calabrese
And you thought President Obama got the Nobel Peace Prize without having done anything to earn it. Shows what you know.
Thorbjorn Jagland, long-time vice president of Socialist International and chairman of the Nobel Peace Prize Committee, came out in public today in an attempt to answer the question on everyone’s lips since Friday: “For what?”

Peace, Jagland-style.
One of the things Jagland mentioned specifically was Obama’s decision to welch on President Bush’s commitment to install missile shields in Poland and the Czech Republic – a complete sellout to the Russians that was offered without the Russians having to give anything in return.
This, according to Jagland, was a good thing.
But it gets better. Jagland’s further comment on this is priceless, and tells you everything you need to know about the way these people think:
“All these things have contributed to — I wouldn’t say a safer world — but a world with less tension.”
No one is safer. Not even Jagland would claim that. But there is “less tension,” so regardless of how dangerous things may be, we all just feel so darn much better about it, don’t we?
As the president himself might say, let’s be clear about why the Poles and the Czechs – and indeed, all of Eastern Europe – wanted those missile interceptors. One reason is the growing threat from a nuclear Iran, but another is the menacing stance of the Russians, who desperately want to bring Eastern Europe back under its sphere of influence.
The entry of Poland and the Czech Republic into NATO in the years since the fall of the Iron Curtain has not been a welcome development in Moscow. Boris Yeltsin may have seen Russia’s future as best aligned with the West, but Vladimir Putin certainly does not.
He is already putting the muscle on former Soviet republics wherever and however he can, and he would love to do the same to the former Warsaw Pact nations. What will stop him? Not missile defenses. Obama has seen to that, with Thorbjorn Jagland cheering him on.
Are we to believe that Obama will look into Putin’s eyes with steely resolve and declare that all of Eastern Europe is under America’s umbrella of protection? Why should we expect that? How has he stood up to the Russians thus far? On anything?
There is only “less tension” in the sense that the world’s biggest bullies are taking Obama’s lunch money without having to slap him around first. That may represent the momentary absence of conflict, but if that’s what these people think peace is, the Eastern Europeans might as well just start rebuilding the Berlin Wall and making room in their homes to quarter the Russian soldiers.
At least there’s no mistaking the priorities of the Nobel Peace Prize Committee. Soviet socialism was grand, and thanks to our newest laureate’s decision not to protect its long-time victims, happy days for comrades may soon be here again.

I wonder how President Obama feels about his decision to turn on the Poles and Czechs now?
No, wait! He doesn’t give a damn about the Czechs and Poles, does he? I forgot.
Meanwhile the North Koreans continue to launch missiles into the Sea of Japan…..

Robert Gates: The second phase, about 2015, will involve fielding upgraded, land-based SM-3s. Consultations have begun with allies, starting with Poland and the Czech Republic, about hosting a land-based version of the SM-3 and other components of the system. Basing some interceptors on land will provide additional coverage and save costs compared to a purely sea-based approach.

This is due to the fact that at the same time they are becoming more and more affordable, their computing power is growing to the point where they can be as powerful as desktop computers coming from just a few in years past.

Interesting blog post. What I would like to bring about is that personal computer memory should be purchased when your computer still cannot cope with whatever you do by using it. One can set up two random access memory boards having 1GB each, for instance, but not one of 1GB and one having 2GB. One should look for the car maker’s documentation for own PC to be sure what type of storage is required.
